The Multiverse ZineNo. 44September 29, 2024

Nine months of prompting, still standing.

Nine Months of Prompting

The first run of the Prompt Engineering classes neared its end, and Liz named two collaborators she planned to bring on as teachers.

This issue is dressed as Dutch Golden Age

The first run of all the Prompt Engineering classes was almost finished, after nine months. Most people did not make it all the way through, and by the third cohort the classes had to be nearly doubled in length because senior developers and data scientists were struggling to keep up. Liz expected the program to grow into something closer to 18 months.

She planned to add teachers, likely Ryan Orban and John K. Lindstedt, who also appear on the Consciousness podcast. The Autogen class, now called Swarm Architecture, was pushed back because of low enrollment.

Liz also shared a paper she read that week and videos of the rover.

Hey Multiverse Crew-

It's been an exciting week, if you know, you know. If not, don't worry about it too much. Long story short, I have acquired us some community resources, and have activated some contingency plans. Some important organizing work is happening behind the scenes that did take some time this week.

Roan is heading back to England! Thanks, I hate it. We'll get them back here asap โœŠ

The rover is doing well and everything is great. I did learn a lot about stuff like this this week. In October, I'm doing another SECRET THING, but it'll be more live-during, less prolonged secret.

It turns out Prompt Engineering is very involved and not a trivial field of study.

From this issue

If you've been waiting for my Autogen Class its called Swarm Architecture - it got pushed because of low enrollment. Sign up here. That means we're almost done with the first run of all of the Prompt Engineering classes! Haha, it took 9 months and most people didn't make it all the way through because they were overwhelmed and we needed to pretty much double the length of the classes by the 3rd cohort because senior developers and data scientists are struggling to keep up. It turns out Prompt Engineering is very involved and not a trivial field of study. It seems like it's going to be an 18-month program eventually. This is insane, and I am going to have to give away more free material just to get people through this. We just need more people to understand it.

Y'all, I am going to bring on some additional folks to teach other stuff you need to know. It's likely going to be people like Ryan Orban and John K. Lindstedt because they've been doing the same thing I have been: leading research teams on frontier science and being education radicals. You can catch them on the consciousness podcast.

If you're waiting on an email from me... just wait longer sorry ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŠ I have gotten to about 1/3rd of them!

Also I am out Oct 1-3!

I/O Psychologists and Psychometricians

Let's chat in a week - I've got some research questions nailed down, bring your thoughts.

Are you interested in the concept of this research, AGI, Psychometrics and are absolutely positive your unique field and set of interests will allow you to meaningfully contribute, but are not an I/O Psychologist or psychometrician?

You want to attend prompt engineering! You'll learn all about the process of building effective benchmarks there. We'll be discussing the research, and you'll learn quite a bit more in that class. You can help by attending this class and attempting to make your own benchmarks, this is literally the research. We'll discuss the forms of validity in that class, and you are able to contribute to the research by constructing your own benchmarks and having them reviewed. This will help us.

The end of 1:1s for now

I'm teaching 3 classes on average, and I just realistically don't have a lot of time for them anymore, so they're a bit scarce.

1:1s are now a research team or membership benefit.

For the research team, apply by emailing me. I'll get to you as space opens up.

The last 2 weeks we bailed on the stream, due to being too exhausted, and then Mini John was also too exhausted so we had to wait for them to get their energy up too.
